Description:Tiger relaxing after the consumption of a college graduate. Caption: “She was a very nice girl” Publication information: Scribner's magazine, 1892. Literature: Featured in American Illustrators, F. Hopkinson Smith's landmark series on page 20 of part V. Published by Scribner's 1892. Medium: watercolor Size: 15.5 x 23” Signature: not signed. Condition: Sheet is mounted to a heavier board, overall very good, not framed. Comment: Frost's contemporary Frederic S. Church was famous for painting allegorical pictures, primarily of attractive young women and animals. This is Frost's lighthearted adaptation of a typical Church subject. Color works of this degree of finish, by the colorblind artist, rarely come to market. A copy, though not quite complete, of the Smith volume will be included with the purchase of the artwork.
