| Artist: Anton Otto Fischer (1881-1962) Description: Shipwrecked sailors looking towards sea. Caption: The Survivors Publication information: Center spread for Harper’s Weekly, 1908. Medium: Oil on canvas en grisaille Size: 22 x 28 ”Signature: signed lower right . Condition: Yellowed varnish, small patch in lower right. Should be cleaned. Comment: The first of Fischer’s works to be published, appearing in Harper’s Weekly. Fischer went on to become one of, if not THE, most respected of the American marine illustrators. Includes a copy of a letter from the artist’s daughter discussing the history of the artwork. Price: $4,750. |
