  Artist: Norman Price (1877-1951)

Description:
In a pirate saloon.

Caption:
"They flung me headlong into the tap-room which was ablaze with candles and noisy with shouting men."

Publication information: story illustration for The Rogue’s Moon, which was serialized in Liberty  magazine. The story was also published in book form by Appleton and Co. This subject appeared in the booking black and white line.

Condition:
A couple small flaking areas... one above the falling boy's shoe and one on the sleeve of a leaning pirate at right… Overall good, in a ca. 1940’s frame.

Comment:
Price illustrated extensively in virtually all of the markets available in his day. He had a particular fondness, and hence ability, for the depiction of adventurous subjects… pirates were often at the center of the adventure stories of the period. This comes to me directly from a woman whose father acquired the piece in New York in the late 1940’s, likely from the artist himself
