Description: Young woman listening to telegraphic message from Cupid. Publication information: This was the cover illustration for an early romance pulp, most likely one of the Street & Smith titles. Medium: Oil on canvas Size: 24 x 18” Signature: signed lower left. Condition: Very good, recently relined, restretched and cleaned. At the time of cleaning an earlier signature and date of 1919 was discovered and is barely visible. A frame is on order…. Not seen in the attached photos. Comment: I’ve spent some time… though evidently not enough… trying to locate a copy of the magazine that features this on the cover. Oftentimes it seems to be the “Romance” pulps that are toughest to find. I could launch into a speculative diatribe of why this might be the case, but am trying to reign myself in here. So, let me just say that romance magazines of the period weren’t kept as systematically as detective, western or any of the other major subcategories. Price: $2,200.
