Artist: Bernie Fuchs (1932-2009) Description: Street scene in Pineville, Kentucky Caption: “Football is usually Topic A over coffee down at Flocoe Drugstore” Publication information: Story illustration for “A Twilight's Last Gleaming” by Frank Deford, published in Sports Illustrated, November 19, 1984. Medium: oil on canvas Size: 30 x 15” Signature: initialed lower right Condition: Good, originally came to me unstretched... I stapled it to stretcher bars to make it easier to photograph and show. Because I bought standard-sized stretcher bars, there's a little overlap at top and a little shortfall at left and right. Getting it stretched to exact dimensions will be something easy enough to accomplish. Comment: Here we have Bernie Fuchs doing what he did so well... capturing light and turning the ordinary into the extra-ordinary. Those of you who've been visiting my site with regularity know how I feel about Bernie's abilities... we lost a giant when he passed away in September. Purchase includes a full copy of the magazine.
