Description: Man tying bowtie reflected in mirror
Comment: I was recently reminded of something that happened in the fall of 2001. The magazine for which I used to write articles on great illustrators of the past commented that (words to the effect of) ‘If the events of September 11th teach us nothing else, is that it’s time to focus on the future not the past.’ This to me remains a true head-scratcher. The notion that we can move forward without knowledge of the past is anathema to me. Look as an example at this George Stavrinos. Tell me if you think that George wasn’t looking at J.C. Leyendecker’s cover for The Saturday Evening Post of April 11th, 1936.
