Baumhofer, Walter M.

Price: $3,650.00

Description: Beautiful woman with hand to throat.

Comment: Here's Baumhofer at his most painterly, one needn't know every detail of the story to recognize this as a very appealing image. One of the (few) drawbacks of being an art dealer is that one can't keep everything that one likes... if this were mine, I'd have it restretched to a size just slightly bigger than the image, put a nice frame on it and enjoy it for the rest of my days. Includes the tearsheet as shown.

Artist Walter M. Baumhofer (1904-1987)
Caption β€œShe stopped when she saw John, and her heart was in her eyes for anybody to see.”
Condition Very good though it looks like the varnish has yellowed with time, this could easily be remedied by a professional conservator. Those of you who are familiar with Baumhofer's work from this period know that he frequently left a substantial white border around his oil on canvas compositions... presumably to minimize handling wear at the time of printing. This picture is no exception, the overall stretched canvas measures 20 x 16”.
Medium Oil on canvas
Publication Information Story illustration for American magazine, July 1947.
Signature signed lower right.
Size 14.25 x 10.75”
