Comment:  Kuhn was an important advocate of social conscience before he became better known as a painter than as an illustrator. The subject matter for this one is President Theodore Roosevelt’s March 13, 1905 speech “On American Motherhood.” The concept of “race suicide” is that there are not enough Caucasian babies being born while the birthrate for people of color escalates… as such contraception was deemed unpatriotic. Thank goodness no one asked me to made this stuff up because, surely, I could not. Something of a case where the more things change, the more they stay the same. Whether one agrees with the sentiment or not, there’s no doubt that Kuhn knew how to use a pen.
