Comment: Another of the lesser-known, though clearly talented, of Howard Pyle's students... Lukens is perhaps most often remembered for the fact that after studying at the elbow of the “Father of American Illustration,” he left illustration for painting houses. As with the Ida Dougherty included in this grouping, this is the only example by the illustrator that I've ever seen in person.
